Gabon
Gabon’s main opposition leader Jean Ping has continued his campaign to contest the re-election of Ali Bongo in the August 27 presidential elections.
On Monday he kicked off his 5-day campaign dubbed ‘mobilization for change’. Ping who has declared himself the rightfully elected president of Gabon is seeking to meet with Gabonese trade unions, religious organizations and other NGOs across the country.
Last week Jean Ping’s lawyers sent a case file to the ICC’s prosecutor accusing president Ali Bongo’s government of crimes against humanity.
The accusations relate to violence that broke out for two days following the controversial reelection of President Ali Bongo in August.
The opposition claimed 26 people were killed during the riots and protests that begun on August 31, although official government figures put that toll at 3.
